AI chatbots are becoming easier to build, but monetizing them is still a challenge.

Developers can build chatbots using OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and other AI models. But every conversation comes with a cost, whether it's API usage, hosting, or infrastructure.

Subscriptions are one option, but not every chatbot is built for a paid subscription model.

So I've been thinking about another approach: contextual advertising for AI conversations.

What if chatbots could earn revenue from conversations?

Imagine someone using an AI chatbot to find the best website builder for their business.

The chatbot provides its normal answer. Below that response, a clearly labeled sponsored placement appears for a relevant website-building tool.

The advertisement is separate from the AI-generated response and doesn't influence what the chatbot says.

That's the idea behind LoreAds, a contextual advertising platform I'm currently building for AI chatbots and conversational applications.

How would it work?

The concept is straightforward:

  1. A developer integrates LoreAds into their chatbot.
  2. The platform identifies relevant advertising opportunities based on conversation context.
  3. A sponsored placement appears separately from the AI response.
  4. The chatbot publisher can earn revenue from eligible ad impressions.

The goal is to keep the integration simple and the advertising experience non-intrusive.

What about privacy and user experience?

These are two of the biggest questions I'm exploring.

I believe chatbot advertising should follow a few basic principles:

  • Ads should always be clearly labeled.
  • Sponsored placements should never be presented as AI recommendations.
  • Sensitive conversations should not be monetized.
  • Developers should have control over how ads appear.
  • Privacy should be considered from the beginning, not added later.

Of course, putting these principles into practice requires careful engineering and testing.

Why I'm building LoreAds

I'm a solo founder, and I believe AI chatbot developers should have more monetization options beyond subscriptions.

LoreAds is currently in beta development, and we're inviting early chatbot publishers to explore the platform. We're offering a 75% publisher revenue share during the early beta.

I'm particularly interested in feedback from developers building free or freemium AI products.

Would you consider adding contextual sponsored placements to your chatbot?

And what would be your biggest concern: privacy, ad relevance, integration complexity, or user experience?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
