Coupons look like a small win: a code, a discount, a countdown. Most bad coupon experiences come from skipping three boring checks.

1. Check the expiry date

A code that worked last month is just a string now. Look for the end date, and check the timezone if the offer ends close to midnight.

2. Read the conditions

Minimum spend, eligible products, new customers only, one use per account, country restrictions. The small print decides whether the coupon applies to your cart.

3. Open the official store

Search results and social ads can point to lookalike pages. Start from the store you trust, then apply the code at checkout. If a "deal" only exists on a page that asks for unusual data, close it.

A note on affiliate links

I list coupons and deals from official partner feeds. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I do not invent discounts, and I do not publish prices on the site because prices and conditions change.

What is your own pre-checkout routine? I am especially interested in checks that catch fake urgency.
