We made a small free extension: a monkey who lives in your Explorer side bar and tells you how your night is going. He is called Jitters.
The four clips are the real extension running in code-server, recorded as it ran. The clock is set by hand in each clip, so you do not have to wait until 2 am to see him. The caption bar is the only thing added.
What he does
- He works out his mood from three things on your machine: the local time, how long this sitting has lasted, and how many times you saved in the last hour.
- Before your bedtime (23:00 by default) he is rested. Past it, he wears the night you would get if you went to bed right now: groggy, wrecked, then running on fumes, with the number of coffees he will owe tomorrow. If you save while it is late, he says so.
- Three hours in one sitting without a break and he sinks into the chair.
- The same word sits in the status bar.
What he does not do
- He counts saves and nothing else. He never reads a file name, a path or what is in a file, and the extension sends nothing anywhere. The one button, "see his week", opens his web page in your browser when you press it.
- He is not connected to your tests or your terminal. He only knows the clock and your saves.
Install
It is on Open VSX, so it works in VSCodium, code-server, Windsurf and the other editors that use that registry. It is not on Microsoft's marketplace.

Set your own bedtime in Settings, Jitters. The code is MIT.
A question
What would you want a creature like this to react to in your editor? Failing tests, a long diff, a build that takes forever? Tell us in the comments and we will read every answer.
