Every day I scrape the career pages of 276 AI and tech companies and diff the open roles week over week. This is the diff for 2026-10-04 to 2026-10-10.
Headline numbers
- 22,020 open roles across 276 companies
- 1,853 roles opened, 1,728 closed, net +125
Who added the most (net)
| Company | Net | Open now |
|---|---|---|
| Anduril | +60 | 2,491 |
| Harvey | +24 | 350 |
| Shield AI | +18 | 614 |
| Skydio | +13 | 157 |
| Cribl | +12 | 69 |
| Kong | +12 | 86 |
| Stripe | +12 | 728 |
Who pulled back
| Company | Net | Opened | Closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | -47 | 39 | 86 |
| Plata Card | -21 | 16 | 37 |
| Cohere | -18 | 4 | 22 |
| OpenAI | -13 | 46 | 59 |
| DeepL | -11 | 0 | 11 |
By function (net change in open roles)
- Engineering: +116 (657 opened, 541 closed)
- Product & Design: +12
- Other: +10
- Ops & G&A: +8
- Marketing: +3
- Sales & GTM: -8
- Research: -16
What I read from it
- Engineering is where the net growth is. Almost all of the +125 comes from it; Research is slightly down.
- Defense and robotics tech (Anduril, Shield AI, Skydio) are the biggest gainers. Money for dual-use hardware is showing up as headcount.
- A big "closed" number is not always layoffs. ElevenLabs closed 86 roles but also opened 39, so part of it is roles being filled or consolidated. DeepL opened none and closed 11, which is the cleaner contraction signal.
Caveats
- The data is career-page listings only. A closed listing can mean filled, paused or cancelled; I can't tell which.
- Only 276 companies, picked by me. It is not the whole market.
- Roles are classified into functions by title keywords, so "Other" is a catch-all and some titles land in the wrong bucket.
