Hi all,
I'm looking for feedback from Rust developers on the structure and idiomatic use of Rust in a 6502 emulator project.
The project is being used as the basis for a commercial book that teaches emulator development in Rust, and I'm particularly interested in whether the code and explanations reflect current Rust best practices. The Rust emulator implementation will be open sourced on GitHub, as will additional book chapters.
In particular, I'd appreciate feedback on the Rust overview chapter:
I have also posted several additional chapters that provide the foundation for the emulator and demonstrate Hello World running in 6502:
The introduction is here and provides more complete context:
In particular, I'd be interested in opinions on:
- Whether the Rust primer reflects current best practices
- Whether the ownership and borrowing examples are presented clearly
- Alternative patterns that should be introduced to readers
- Any usability feedback from folks who do complete the Hello World build
There are also a few areas, such as opcode dispatch, addressing modes, and emulator structure, where I'd appreciate additional feedback. If anyone is interested in those topics, I'd be happy to share the relevant unpublished chapters privately. Reviewers get a named credit in the book and a free copy of the book.
Please feel free to reply here, DM me, or email me at jason@silicon-arcade.com.
Thanks!
Jason
