A second-hand PC purchase for $650 resulted in a remote system lock during a Windows update after the machine was flagged as unauthorized rental hardware.
Documentation verified that the subscription partner provided a replacement system free of charge, contingent on the original hardware being handed over to law enforcement.
How the device rental was revealed
A spokesperson for Fragile, an NZXT partner that runs the company's subscription program, explained that the computer was rented and the seller had no right to sell it.
The solution from the company
Documents reviewed by Tom's Hardware and the user himself confirmed that Fragile sent the buyer a brand new computer completely free of charge. The only condition for the replacement was that the original, stolen computer be handed over to the police.
