Short answer: a US seller with free shipping keeps $26.70 from a $30 sale. Etsy takes $3.30, which is 11%. If the order came through an Offsite Ad, Etsy takes another $4.50, and you keep $22.20.

One seller on r/printondemand put it this way: "I thought I made $4,200 from my Etsy shop in Q4… the brutal reality is $2,800." (source) Most of that gap is fees that are small one by one and add up over many orders. Here is each fee, with the exact cents.

The 2026 Etsy fees (US seller)

Fee Rate Charged on
Listing fee $0.20 per listing (lasts 4 months or until it sells) each item listed or renewed
Transaction fee 6.5% item price + shipping + gift wrap (for US sellers, not on sales tax)
Payment processing (US) 3% + $0.25 the total the buyer pays, including sales tax
Offsite Ads (only on attributed orders) 15%, or 12% once your shop has made $10,000+ in any 365 days the order total, capped at $100 per order
Regulatory Operating Fee 0% in the US. UK 0.48%, France 1.14%, Canada 0.50%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%, India 0.05% (rates from 22 Jun 2026) item price + shipping

Worked example 1: $30 item, free shipping, no Offsite Ad

  • Listing: $0.20
  • Transaction: 6.5% × $30 = $1.95
  • Processing: 3% × $30 + $0.25 = $1.15
  • Etsy takes $3.30. You get $26.70.

Worked example 2: $30 item + $5 shipping + 7% sales tax

The buyer pays $35 plus $2.45 tax, so $37.45 in total.

  • Listing: $0.20
  • Transaction: 6.5% × $35 = $2.28 (no transaction fee on the tax)
  • Processing: 3% × $37.45 + $0.25 = $1.37 (processing is charged on the tax)
  • Fees: $3.85. You get $31.15, and $5 of that pays the postage.

Worked example 3: the same $30 sale, from an Offsite Ad

Add 15% × $30 = $4.50. Total fees are now $7.80, or 26%. You keep $22.20. This single fee is larger than all the others combined. Shops under $10,000 a year can opt out in Shop Manager → Settings → Advertising.

Before you count it as profit

The $26.70 still has to cover materials, packaging, and your time. With $12 in materials, your real profit is $14.70, or 49%. With an Offsite Ad sale, it's $10.20. Etsy's own listing calculator doesn't include Offsite Ads, because that fee varies from order to order.

FAQ

What percentage does Etsy take per sale?
For a US seller, about 9.5% of the sale plus $0.45 per order (the $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing fee). On a $30 sale that comes to 11%. Offsite Ads add 12–15%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing both apply to the shipping you charge.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
For US sellers, the transaction fee doesn't apply to sales tax. Payment processing does.

Is the $0.20 listing fee charged again when it sells?
If a listing has more than one in stock, Etsy renews it for $0.20 each time an item sells. A listing also renews after 4 months if auto-renew is on.

Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?
Only if your shop has always made under $10,000 in any 365-day period. Above that, it's required, at 12%.

Are there other fees?
Possibly: Etsy Ads (onsite, which you set a budget for), currency conversion if you list in a different currency from your bank, a set-up fee in some regions, and VAT on fees in some countries. See Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy.

I put these rates and examples on one printable page: the FREE Etsy Fee Cheat Sheet 2026. It costs nothing and you don't need an account.

If you'd rather enter your orders and see real profit per product, including Offsite Ads, I built the Etsy Real Profit Tracker for that. It's a $9 spreadsheet. Code LAUNCH5 makes it $5 until 24 October 2026.
