Adding weather to your Firefox new tab is simpler than most people expect. Here's the exact steps.

Install Weather & Clock Dashboard

  1. Open Firefox and go to addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/weather-clock-dashboard/

  2. Click "Add to Firefox" (blue button)

  3. Firefox will show a permissions dialog — the extension only needs access to new tab pages. Click "Add" to confirm.

  4. Open a new tab. You'll see the extension's default view: weather, clocks, and search bar.

Set Up Your Location

Option A: Allow location access (automatic)

The first time you open a new tab with the extension, your browser may ask if the extension can know your location. Click "Allow". The extension uses your browser's geolocation (not a stored database) to get local weather.

Option B: Type your city manually (no location permission needed)

  1. Click the settings gear icon on the new tab
  2. Under "Weather Location," type your city name
  3. Press Enter or click Save

Typing a city name is useful if you want weather for a fixed location regardless of where you are, or if you prefer not to share geolocation.

Add World Clocks

  1. Open a new tab
  2. Click the settings gear icon
  3. Scroll to "World Clocks"
  4. Type a city name (e.g., "London", "Tokyo", "New York") and press Enter
  5. Repeat for each city you want

The clocks update automatically — no timezone offset entry needed.

Switch Between Dark and Light Mode

Click the sun/moon icon on the new tab page to toggle between light and dark mode. The setting persists — it won't reset when you open a new tab.

What You'll See

After setup, every new tab shows:

  • Top section: Current weather conditions + temperature for your city
  • Below weather: 3-day forecast (high/low + weather icon per day)
  • Clock area: Current local time + any world clocks you added
  • Bottom: Search bar

Troubleshooting

Weather says "Location not available"
→ Click settings, make sure a city is entered or try re-allowing location access in Firefox settings (address bar → shield icon → remove "Location" block)

World clock not showing my city
→ Try a major nearby city. "San Jose" might work better than a small suburb. The extension geocodes city names.

Dark mode not saving
→ Check Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection isn't clearing extension storage. If it is, the toggle will reset on each session.

The whole setup takes about 3 minutes. The extension is free, requires no account, and doesn't store data beyond your settings locally. Find it at addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/weather-clock-dashboard/.
