By the Al-Taswia Legal Services Company team. Baghdad, October 2026. The author, Othman Al-Juboori, is an Iraqi lawyer and expert in Iraqi labour law.

Knowing the law is only half of a lawyer's job. The other half happens in the courtroom: under pressure, in front of a judge, facing an opponent who watches every reaction. That is the starting point of "How to Become an Unbeatable Lawyer: Fifty Rules from the Heart of the Courtroom" by Iraqi lawyer Othman Al-Juboori, founder and Managing Director of Al-Taswia Legal Services Company, who writes in the book's About the Author section that he has appeared in more than 2,000 cases before civil, criminal, commercial and labour courts.

What do the fifty rules cover?

The book page on our website lists the fifty rule titles as they appear in the book's contents, grouped into seven themes so you can find the right one before a hearing:

  1. Preparation and case strategy, e.g. "Do Not Take on a Case Before You Understand Its Legal and Procedural Terrain" and "Do Not Speak Before You Know What You Want from the Court".
  2. Composure and courtroom presence, e.g. "Do Not Let Surprise Become Visible Confusion" and "Do Not Raise Your Voice—Give Your Words Weight".
  3. Oral argument and persuasion, e.g. "Silence Is an Invisible Weapon" and "Do Not Begin Your Defence in the Middle: Start with Your Strongest Central Point".
  4. Dealing with the opponent, e.g. "Do Not Fight the Battle Your Opponent Chooses" and "Do Not Build Your Defence on Denying Everything".
  5. Evidence, documents and the hearing record, e.g. "Do Not Let the Hearing Record Tell a Different Story from What Happened".
  6. Client handling, e.g. "Do Not Make Too Many Promises to Your Client—Promises Can Recoil on You".
  7. Professional ethics and reputation, e.g. "Advocate Not Only to Win, but to Remain Professional Whatever the Outcome".

How is each rule built?

Every rule follows the same structure: the core idea, why it matters in practice, an illustrative courtroom example, concrete steps for applying it, the situations in which the rule fails, and a closing golden takeaway. This is not a book of tricks: every tactic is subordinate to the law, procedure and professional duty, and the author is candid about each rule's limits.

Who is it for?

  • Law students who want to see what the classroom rarely teaches.
  • Trainee and newly qualified lawyers in their first years in court.
  • Practising lawyers who want a calmer, sharper courtroom presence: preparing a case, answering the judge, handling clients and protecting their professional reputation.

How to use it

The book suggests you do not memorise the list. Before each hearing, choose one or two rules that fit the situation you expect, then note afterwards what worked and what needed adjusting. Whenever a rule touches a document, a deadline, an objection or another party's right, the applicable law and procedure come first.
