Murf AI's free Studio plan is a test drive, not a free voiceover tool: you get 10 minutes of voice generation and the editing features, but you cannot download the audio and you have no commercial rights. Used well, those 10 minutes are enough to find the right voice, fix the pronunciation and timing of a real script, and decide whether paying is worth it. This guide walks through that in five steps, using the feature names in Murf's own documentation. Plan details were read on murf.ai/pricing on 2 November 2026.

What the free plan includes (2 November 2026)

Murf's pricing page lists the Free Studio plan at $0 with no credit card: 10 projects, 10 minutes of voice generation and 1 editor, with "Everything in Business Plan (No Downloads)" and "No Commercial Rights". Another Murf page, its text-to-speech page, still says 2 projects, so expect the smaller number if your account shows it.

"Everything in Business Plan" matters: Business-only controls such as Emphasis, Variability and Say It My Way can be tried on the free plan. What you cannot do without paying is take the audio out of Murf.

Step 1: write and time the script before you open Murf

Write the script in a document first, because the 10 minutes are spent on generating voice, not on typing. Murf's guide gives 150 to 180 words a minute as a normal narration pace, so a 60-second video needs roughly 150 to 180 words, and 10 minutes of generation covers about 1,500 to 1,800 words if each line is generated once (our calculation).

We could not find on Murf's pages whether regenerating a block uses the allowance again, so assume it does: test the voice on a few short blocks first rather than the whole script.

Step 2: create a video project and add your footage

Click Create project, choose Video as the content type and pick a use case. Use Add Media to upload your video, take a clip from Murf's stock library or import from YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion.

Paste the script into the editor and split it into short blocks, one sentence or idea each. Voice settings and timing work per block, so short blocks are easier to fix and to line up with the cuts in your video.

Step 3: choose the voice on one block

Open Explore AI voices and play samples, filtering by language, accent, age and tone. Murf's text-to-speech page lists 200+ voices in 35 languages.

Pick two or three candidates and generate the same short block with each. Choose by how the voice handles your actual words, especially brand names and numbers, not by the sample sentence.

Step 4: fix pacing, pauses and pronunciation

Set the speed in the top toolbar and adjust pitch per block. Use Add Pause for a preset or custom-length pause where the viewer needs a beat, for example before a price or after a question.

Fix names and jargon with the pronunciation tool: respell the word the way it sounds, or use IPA. To stress a word, open Emphasis with the speech-bubble icon at the right edge of the block and drag the word's node above or below the line. Do this on the free plan, since these settings stay in the project if you upgrade.

Step 5: sync to the video and preview

Drag and resize the audio blocks on the timeline at the bottom so each line starts on the right shot; background music works the same way. Press the play button in the middle of the screen to preview the video with the voiceover, and preview again after each timing change.

When the whole video plays the way you want, stop. The next step, downloading, needs a paid plan.

When you need to pay, and what it costs

Downloads and commercial rights start at Creator: $29 a month with 2 hours of voice generation a month, or $19 a month billed yearly ($228 a year, 24 hours a year). Business is $99 a month, or $66 a month billed yearly ($792 a year, 96 hours a year), and adds the business licence, Emphasis, Variability, Say It My Way, PowerPoint integration and Audio to Text. Murf labels yearly billing "Saved 33%" (pricing page, 2 November 2026).

Because the free plan has no commercial rights, recording its playback to use in a video is not a way around the paywall. Buy the plan when the project is ready, and check the refund rule first: Murf's terms (read 19 October 2026) allow a refund only within 24 hours of purchase and if less than 10 minutes of voice generation has been used.

Students, educators and non-profit staff can ask Murf for a personal 20% coupon. There is no public Murf promo code; see our Murf AI page for the details.
