Why I built these

Over the past few weeks, I worked on three small side projects to practice backend development with Node.js and MongoDB. None of them are groundbreaking, but they solve real problems I personally ran into, and I figured someone else might find them useful too.

All three are free, open-source, and open to contributions or feedback.

1. Discord Guard Bot — Security Duki 1.1

A moderation bot built after getting tired of raid bots and spam in a few Discord servers I help manage.

Features:

  • Blacklist system — auto-kicks bots added to a blocklist via /bl command
  • Anti-spam protection — configurable message limit before timing out a user (default: 5 messages → 1 hour mute)
  • Unauthorized channel creation gets auto-deleted unless the member has a specific role
  • Link-sharing restricted to members with permission

Stack: Node.js, discord.js v14, MongoDB (Mongoose)

2. Simple Auth System — Login Interface

A clean login/register boilerplate I built as a reusable starting point for future projects that need authentication without pulling in a massive framework.

Features:

  • Passwords hashed with bcrypt (never stored in plain text)
  • Sessions stored in MongoDB instead of localStorage — more resistant to XSS
  • Protected dashboard route via custom middleware

Stack: Node.js, Express, MongoDB

3. JS Whitespace & Indentation Formatter

A lightweight script that automatically fixes spacing and indentation in messy JavaScript code snippets.

I'm not trying to compete with Prettier here — this was mostly a fun exercise in string manipulation and regex that ended up being genuinely usable for quick fixes.

Feedback welcome

All three repos are MIT licensed and open to pull requests. If you try any of them out, I'd genuinely appreciate bug reports or suggestions — this is still early-stage work and there's plenty of room to improve.

Thanks for reading!
