I write papers in LaTeX and reports in Word, and I kept pasting paragraphs into web tools to reword them. So I built Rewrite: one desktop app that rewrites text and also opens those files.
Rewrite text
Click a word for alternatives ranked by how well they fit the sentence. Select a phrase to reword it. Press Ctrl+E for new versions of the whole sentence, each with how much meaning it keeps.
Auto-rewrite does a whole document, or a selection, in one go. Then you accept or reject each change.
Spelling and grammar slips get red and blue underlines with one-click fixes.
Edit the files you already have
- Word: .docx, .doc, .odt and .rtf open with styles, lists, tables, pictures, charts and footnotes, and save the same way.
- LaTeX: the PDF sits beside the source. Commands, maths and citations are never changed.
- PDF: highlight, add notes, draw, change a line of text, and move, merge or delete pages.
Everything exports to PDF, Word, OpenDocument, RTF, HTML, Markdown, LaTeX or plain text.
How it's built
Rust and GTK 4, packaged for Windows, macOS and Linux on x64 and ARM: six installers built on GitHub Actions from one workspace.
