What I Learned in Class: HTML & CSS Basics
In class,we discussed the main three used in front-end development:HTML CSS and JavaScript.we then looked a diagram which was easier to understand.

HTML (The Skeleton): Provides the content and acts as a structural backbone of a webpage. It holds headings, paragraphs, images.
CSS (The Look): Gives styling to the webpage. It controls the colors, fonts, layout.
JavaScript (The Brain): It makes the page to do actions by giving life it makes the whole interactive.

Where HTML & CSS are used in real applications:
HTML: Every single website on the internet uses HTML—whether it's Google, YouTube, or online news sites—to structure text, images, and links.

CSS: Without CSS, every website on the web would just look like black&white text where CSS turns normal text into creative layouts.

  1. What is a Markup Language, and why is HTML one?
HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. A markup language is a system for "marking up" text with tags so that a web browser knows how to structure and display it.
    tags comes under"<>"
HTML is classified as a markup language because it doesn't solve math problems, execute functions, or handle logic. It simply defines where both machine and human can understand.

  2. What is the difference between HTML and other programming languages?
Unlike programming languages like Python, Java, HTML does not have logic. It doesn't use variables, if/else conditions, or loops. Programming languages process data and perform actions, while HTML just structures and organizes content.

  3. What is the latest version of HTML in use today?
The latest version of HTML is HTML5. It introduced modern features like native video/audio playback, new semantic tags (

, , ), and better mobile support. Today, HTML5 is the living standard maintained across all modern web browsers.
  4. Are there replacements for HTML? Why or why not?
I also searched about alternatives to HTML. Things like JSX (used in React), Pug, or Markdown are often used by developers to write templates faster.

However, these are not true replacements for HTML! Tools like JSX or Markdown are just converted back into standard HTML before the browser reads them. The web browser only understands pure HTML, which is why HTML remains irreplaceable for web structure.

To write my code, I use Visual Studio Code (VS Code), which is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
Created a project folder and opened it in VS Code
Created an index.html file.
Installed the Live Server extension. whenever I save my code the browser updates instantly without me needing to refresh

The 3 Ways to Use CSS

  1. Inline CSS
You write the styling directly inside the HTML tag using the style attribute.
but typing over and over makes code hard to read.

  2. Internal CSS
You write your CSS inside a style block in the head section
easier than inline CSS but it only works for that single page.

  3. External CSS
You create a completely separate file like style.css and link it to your HTML page inside the head tag.
This is best among the three as it can control many pages with one CSS file which makes it easier and faster.
    I'm excited to keep learning.
