In the first week of September, one AI engine made 86% of all the AI reads of the Engagemii index. That engine was Meta. A month later, in the first week of October, no engine made more than 30%.
The Engagemii index covers about 82 million companies. Every time an AI engine's crawler fetches a page from it, we log the visit and which engine made it. Across the life of the index that adds up to about 196 million AI reads. That log is what this piece is built on: measured visits, counted by engine, not estimates.
Here is the first week of October, by share of AI reads: Claude 30%. Meta 23%. Parallel 12%. OpenAI 12%. Apple 11%. Perplexity 9%. Six engines, and the largest of them holds less than a third.
Meta did not disappear. It is still the second largest reader. What changed is that everyone else grew, and some of them grew very fast. Comparing average daily reads in the first week of September with the first week of October, Apple read about 30 times as much, Perplexity about 10 times as much and OpenAI about 3 times as much.
One of the six did not exist in our logs at all at the start of September. Parallel, a newer AI engine, first showed up in late September. Within about ten days it was making 12% of all the AI reads of the index, level with OpenAI.
Why this matters for a business. For most of the past year, the conversation about AI visibility has been a conversation about one assistant. Which engine sends traffic, which engine to optimize for, which engine to test. Our logs say the audience is now spread across at least six engines, each reading at real volume.
That changes what good looks like. A website that works for one assistant and not the others is now reaching a fraction of the AI audience. The practical goal is a site that any of them can read cleanly: clear facts about who you are and what you sell, structured so a machine can pick them up, and consistent with what the rest of the web says about you.
Two things you can check today. First, the free AI visibility score at engagemii.com shows how ready any website is for AI engines, on a 0 to 10 scale. The average US company scores 4.4. Second, the live page at engagemii.com/live shows the AI engines reading the Engagemii index as it happens, engine by engine.
We will keep publishing the split as it moves. If the last month is any guide, it will keep moving.
