One-Step SEO: Audit SEO & AI Search Visibility With One Command
Search engines are no longer the only way people discover websites.
Today, your website also needs to be understandable, accessible, and useful to AI-powered search experiences such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
Traditional SEO audits focus on search engine visibility. But what about AI search visibility?
That's why I built One-Step SEO.
What is One-Step SEO?
One-Step SEO is an open-source, zero-dependency Node.js CLI that audits both traditional SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
It produces two separate scores:
- Search SEO: How well your website follows technical and on-page SEO best practices.
- AI Visibility: How prepared your content is for AI-powered search and answer engines.
Instead of combining everything into one confusing score, One-Step SEO keeps both metrics separate and provides actionable recommendations.
Run Your First Audit
No complicated configuration or browser installation is required.
Run:
npx one-step-seo quick https://your-site.com One command analyzes your website and generates:
-
report.json— Structured data for developers, automation, and CI/CD. -
report.md— Human-readable findings and prioritized recommendations. -
report.html— Standalone HTML audit dashboard. -
index.html— Aggregated website dashboard for multi-page audits.
It also displays your top three recommended fixes directly in the terminal.
What Does It Check?
One-Step SEO covers several important areas:
Technical SEO
- Crawlability and indexability
- HTTP status codes and HTTPS
- Canonical URLs
- Robots.txt and XML sitemaps
- Internal linking
- Page titles and meta descriptions
On-Page SEO
- Heading structure
- Content quality and completeness
- Metadata
- Structured data
- Page-level optimization
GEO / AI Visibility
- AI crawler accessibility
- Answer-first content structure
- Extractable facts and information
- FAQ coverage
- Entity consistency
-
llms.txtreadiness
The goal is simple: identify what is working, what is missing, and what should be fixed first.
Built for Developers and AI Coding Agents
One-Step SEO isn't just another SEO reporting tool.
It also includes an AI agent skill (SKILL.md) designed to work with:
- Claude Code
- OpenCode
- OpenAI Codex
- Cursor
An AI coding agent can read the generated JSON report, understand the findings, prioritize issues, and prepare an implementation plan.
For example:
Audit https://my-site.com using One-Step SEO, identify the five most important issues, and create an implementation plan.
The skill encourages evidence-based recommendations and safe, reviewable changes instead of blindly modifying your website.
Designed for Real Development Workflows
One-Step SEO is built with practical developer workflows in mind:
- Zero runtime dependencies
- Node.js 18+
- No browser or Playwright required
- Same-host website crawling
- Configurable page limits
- Robots.txt compliance
- Safe HTML auto-fixes with dry-run previews
- Machine-readable JSON reports
- CI/CD integration and configurable failure thresholds
You can also use it in GitHub Actions to detect critical SEO problems before they reach production.
Why Two Separate Scores?
A website can perform well in traditional search but still have content that AI systems struggle to extract, understand, or cite.
Likewise, a website can have useful, well-structured content for AI answers while suffering from technical SEO problems.
Combining these into one score hides important differences.
One-Step SEO reports them independently:
Search SEO + AI Visibility
These are readiness indicators based on observable checks and documented best practices, not official Google rankings or guarantees of AI citations.
Open Source
I built One-Step SEO to make website auditing more accessible to developers, SEO professionals, agencies, and AI-agent users.
The project is MIT licensed, runs locally, and does not require accounts or telemetry.

One Question for Developers
Do you think traditional SEO auditing tools should start measuring AI search visibility separately, or should SEO and GEO remain completely independent?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
