For almost two years now, I’ve been working on a new project whenever I’ve had the time. What started out as a bit of a joke has grown into a virtually full-fledged alternative to Adobe Photoshop 3.0 as a part of my new upcoming website.

Almost all of the functions in the Photoshop toolbar are fully functional, including keyboard shortcuts and key combinations. The tools themselves are interactive, although there are still allot of things that need some work. Overall, it works surprisingly well...

Alongside Photoshop, I’ve also started to recreate Internet Explorer 4.0, Microsoft Messenger 4.7 and Windows 95 Notepad (but that's another post -- FULL -- of bugs).

As a note: Windows Messenger is connected to a web-based LLM, the model is around 2GB in size, so maybe don’t open that one if you're on mobile. #todo 😅.

Overall, on mobile i don't have any idea how to include the Photoshop toolbar, just te less screen size?

The original goal wasn’t to build a modern image editor, but to recreate the look, feel, and behavior of the original Adobe Photoshop 3.0 application for Apple Macintosh as closely as possible using modern web/canvas technologies.

The Problems

I'm using separate canvases for things like:

  • image data
  • layers
  • selections
  • tools
  • text
  • dithering

They all need to stay perfectly aligned while zooming, scrolling and editing, etc, but sometimes: They get misaligned, and i don't get it why it happens... i'm guessing to much canvases, but to much complicated code can get that any way...

I'd love to get some input

My new website is far from done, but if you've worked with canvas, image editors or coordinate transformations, or just to like give your input, i'd love to hear what bug you get (and maybe if possible how you would approach to solve this problem).

A little bit of background: I'm the Art Director at the HomeComputerMuseum in the Netherlands, where my love for old computers and technology fits right in. If that sounds like your kind of thing --> follow us!

So my website is far from complete... So don't #bash me yet.
