Robust edge multiscale space based hybrid Schwarz preconditioner for high-frequency Helmholtz problems

arXiv:2610.41095v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We develop a novel hybrid Schwarz method, termed the robust edge multiscale space based hybrid Schwarz method (REMs-HS), for the efficient solution of high-frequency Helmholtz problems. The method combines a one-level restricted additive Schwarz preconditioner with impedance transmission conditions (RAS-imp) and an edge multiscale (EMs) coarse solver in a multiplicative way. A key ingredient of our construction is a modified impedance boundary condition (mIBC), which is imposed both on the subdomain problems and on the local problems that generate the EMs coarse space. Compared with the original impedance boundary condition, the mIBC makes the proposed method both stable and inexpensive theoretically. We prove that the resulting REMs-HS preconditioner gives rise to a uniform convergent fixed-point iteration for large wavenumbers. Moreover, the required resolution conditions are substantially relaxed. Only a mild condition on the level parameter $\ell$ of the hierarchical coarse basis $\ell>\frac{1}{2}\log_2 k$ is needed, which is markedly weaker than the conditions in previous analyses. Extensive numerical experiments demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method for Helmholtz problems with large wavenumbers.
