Instead of jumping an hour twice a year, shift a little bit each day. The offset rises smoothly from 0 at winter solstice to +60 minutes at summer solstice and back. Max daily change is ~32 seconds.
William Willett's original 1907 proposal was actually 8 shifts of 20 minutes —- four forward in spring, four back in autumn. Gentler on humans than what we ended up with. Now that most clocks are networked, there's no reason to stop at 8.
The site has an interactive demo with two clocks (official vs. smooth), a year-long offset chart, and a working Smooth Time clock you can use as an alarm. Built with Next.js.
