The New York Times reports that the New York Times Company has entered exclusive negotiations to acquire the popular film platform Letterboxd for $330 million.

The platform has scaled to 28 million users, with projected 2026 revenues of $15 million.

The development of the platform

The platform grew from 3 million users in January 2021 to 28 million in April 2026. More than half of its users are under 35 years old.

Previous interest from other studios

Letterboxd was looking for a new owner, according to previous reports. The New York Times reports that film studios A24 and Sony were also interested in buying the company, but A24 couldn't meet the asking price.

The financial data

Letterboxd is free to use, with a subscription option for additional features. Its estimated revenue for 2026 is $15 million — about 4,5% of the amount reportedly offered by the New York Times Company. The company did not comment on the negotiations to the New York Times report.
