I run a scraper that reads company career pages directly (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and similar) and stores the open roles. It currently holds about 45,000 roles from 450 companies. I wanted to know one thing: who is actually hiring people to build and secure agents?

Here is what the data says. Method first, so you can judge it: I matched role titles against a few patterns. A title match is a rough signal, not a headcount.

Titles containing "agent"

508 open roles across 124 companies have "agent" in the title. That includes customer-support agent products, so read it as demand around agents, not only agent infrastructure.

Most roles per company:

Company Roles with "agent" in title
Sierra 75
Decagon 43
OpenAI 22
Cresta 18
Scale AI 15

The first two build customer-service agents, so that is where the hiring volume sits right now.

The infrastructure and security roles

The more interesting rows are the ones about running agents safely. A few real titles from the data:

  • Agent Security (Anthropic)
  • Multi-Agent Scaling (Anthropic)
  • Agent Runtime Platform (Anthropic)
  • Agentic Infrastructure (Vercel)

These are fewer, but they are the roles that match what many of us write about here: audit logs, tool-call evidence, guardrails, runtime limits. Companies list them as senior or staff roles, and the posted salary ranges are high.

What I'd take from it

  1. Volume is in applied agents (support, sales, voice). If you want a job fast, that is the market.
  2. Platform and security roles are rarer and more senior. A real audit or guardrail project on your profile matters more than a framework list.
  3. Funding correlates with openings: the best-funded labs list hundreds of roles each. The top 100 by valuation, with open roles per company, is here: https://launchdreamjob.co/funding?utm_source=devto&utm_campaign=agent-jobs

If you want to browse the roles yourself, remote ones are at https://launchdreamjob.co/remote?utm_source=devto&utm_campaign=agent-jobs and the data refreshes daily.

Caveats

  • Title matching over-counts ("agent" also means insurance or travel agent at some companies).
  • The set of companies is my list of AI and tech employers, not the whole market.
  • I recount daily, so the numbers will have moved by the time you read this.

What would you want to filter by that job boards do not offer? I will add the useful ones.
