You can be comfortable at a company and still be slowly falling behind.
Comfort is predictable hours, a familiar codebase, and zero friction. Alignment is when the work you do directly builds the person you want to become 3 years from now.
A lot of engineers stay in comfortable roles until the tech stack evolves past them, or a restructuring forces a wakeup call. Comfort feels like peace in the moment, but without alignment, it's just delayed panic.
If your daily work isn't sharpening your future, you aren't safe. You're just comfortable.
