I work on Mixolink, a desktop file manager for macOS, Windows, and Linux. We built it for people who work across local files, cloud drives, and remote servers and keep switching tools to move or inspect files.
The main workflows are:
- Work across local files, supported cloud storage, and remote servers in a multi-panel workspace with plugin-based connections.
- Browse supported remote archives and preview or download a selected file.
- Compare two directories and selectively sync differences. This is a manual operation, not continuous background sync.
- Batch rename files with a preview of the planned names.
- Temporarily share selected files or folders over Web or FTP, subject to the source connection and configured permissions.
- Edit supported remote files and save changes back.
Here is the small workflow I would like feedback on: you have a ZIP in Dropbox and need just one file from it. In Mixolink, you can open the remote archive, find the file, then preview or download that file. We tested both preview and download in the public 2.1.0 release. This short video shows the workflow.
Remote archive behavior depends on the storage plugin, archive format, service, and network. A ZIP on Dropbox is the demonstrated case; the animated plugin list in the video does not mean every plugin supports this exact workflow.
If you regularly inspect archives stored remotely, I would be interested in three things:
- Where are your archives stored, and which formats do you use?
- What do you currently do when you need one file from an archive?
- If you try Mixolink, did preview or download work, and where did you get stuck?
Download Mixolink. The current release is free to use. You can reply here or leave a longer report in GitHub Discussions.
The screenshot below shows the multi-panel workspace with local files and a public FTP server. The Batch Rename and Compare / Sync actions are visible in the toolbar; this image does not show the Dropbox ZIP demo.
