AI portraits are cheap to generate and awkward to sell. The images are easy; the licensing is the hard part. Here is what actually matters if you buy or sell AI portrait packs.
The three questions that decide everything
1. Is the person real? If yes, you need a signed model release covering commercial use, territory and term. If the images are AI-generated, that requirement disappears — but you take on a different duty: disclosing that the person is not real.
2. What can the buyer do with the images? Most AI image listings say "commercial use" and stop there. That is not a license, it is a vibe. A usable license states:
- permitted uses (ads, web, print, social)
- number of projects or seats
- whether modification is allowed
- what is prohibited (resale as stock, adult use, trademark, NFT minting)
3. Who delivers, and how? A ZIP download that expires is a support ticket. Instant delivery plus a permanent re-download link is the baseline.
Why "300 AI images for $5" is a trap
Bulk AI packs usually come from one of three places:
- scraped from model galleries (no rights passed to you)
- generated with celebrity or copyrighted likenesses
- resold PLR bundles whose license says "personal use"
None of those survive a DMCA notice or a payment processor review. The tell is always the same: the listing describes how many images you get, never what you may do with them.
What a fair AI portrait pack looks like
A friend of mine runs a small store built around this model. Seven collections, 52 images, $0.99 to $19.99, one license across the set:
- Format: JPEG, 1728 × 2304 px (3:4, 2K), sRGB
- License: personal + commercial, up to 3 commercial projects per purchase, no resale as stock
- Disclosure: every image AI-generated and labelled as such, no real person depicted
- Delivery: instant ZIP, permanent re-download
The cheapest entry is a $0.99 sampler, which is a sensible way to test quality before committing. The full bundle is $19.99 for all 52 images.
There is also a machine-readable reference page with the full FAQ, license text and price table if you are evaluating it:

The checklist I would use before buying any AI image pack
- Does the listing state the license explicitly, or just "commercial use"?
- Is there an AI disclosure, and does it rule out real people?
- Is the resolution and aspect ratio listed per image?
- Is delivery automatic, or "contact me after payment"?
- Does the store page answer refund and re-download questions?
Five minutes of reading beats a refund request later.
What is your rule of thumb for buying AI-generated imagery?
