Learning software testing theory is relatively easy.
Finding a realistic way to actually practise it is much harder.
I’m a QA Engineer, and over the years I’ve seen the same problem come up again and again: people learn what a test case is, what boundary value analysis means, and how a bug report should look — but then they ask:
“Okay… what do I actually test?”
That’s why I built QA Practice Kit.
The idea
I wanted to create a small environment where someone learning manual QA could practise the actual thinking process behind testing.
So I built Pebble & Pine, a fictional online shop that runs completely offline in the browser.
It includes things you would expect from a small e-commerce application:
- products and prices
- a shopping cart
- quantity controls
- search and category filters
- delivery rules
- discount codes
- pricing calculations
And yes — some behaviours are intentionally wrong.
The goal isn’t just to click around until something breaks.
The exercises ask you to read requirements, decide what should be tested, choose useful test data, document your observations and compare your approach with worked solutions.
A simple example
Here’s one of the ideas behind the exercises.
Imagine the requirement says:
Free delivery applies to orders of $50.00 or more.
Orders below $50.00 cost $4.99 to deliver.
What should happen for:
$49.99?
$50.00?
$50.01?
All three values are only one cent apart, but together they tell us much more than testing a random cart value such as $35.
This is the type of reasoning I wanted the kit to encourage.
What I ended up building
The current version contains:
12 hands-on manual QA exercises
An offline practice application
Editable QA templates
A Workbook with the exercises
An Answer Book with worked solutions and explanations
The whole thing runs locally after downloading and extracting the files.
There’s no server to configure, no account to create, and no development environment required.
Try a small exercise for free
I also put a free interactive mini exercise on the project website.
You can try it here:

No purchase is required for the mini exercise.
