The “chatbot” phase is starting to feel like old news. We’re now moving into what you could call the Agentic Layer, where models stop being just chat interfaces and start acting as the brains behind autonomous workflows (Agents).
Here’s what’s changing:
From Inference to Orchestration
The hard part isn’t “getting a response” anymore. It’s keeping track of state, context, and which tools to call when. Instead of relying on a single, general-purpose model, we’re moving toward swarms of specialized agents working together in parallel, each handling a specific part of the job.
The New State of the Art
We’re seeing a wave of frameworks built to act as the “manager” on top of all this: coordinating agents, routing tasks, and keeping everything from spiraling into endless loops or redundant work. These systems are focused on robust workflows, not just clever prompts.
The Last Mile: Reliability
The real push now is around verification and self-correction. Production-ready agents can’t just sound confident, they need to check their own work, correct mistakes, and safely interact with the real world: APIs, databases, codebases, and more, without a human babysitting every step.
The Bottom Line
We’re shifting away from simply talking to models toward deploying agents that actually execute tasks and deliver outcomes. The future isnt chat, its getting things done.
