Most "undetectable AI interview assistant" marketing skips the mechanics. Here is how the hiding actually works on a desktop, what it cannot do, and how the pricing of the main tools lines up against that. I build one of them (ClapAssist), so treat the comparison as a founder's view; the facts come from each product's own pages, read 7 Nov 2026.

How a window stays out of a screen share

Zoom, Meet and Teams capture your screen through the operating system. macOS and Windows both let an app mark a window as excluded from capture (on macOS via the window's sharing type, on Windows via the display-affinity flag). A window marked that way is drawn on your monitor but not in the captured frames, so the interviewer's recording and the shared screen never contain it. That is the whole trick. It is not magic and it is not a hack of the meeting app.

Two consequences follow:

  1. It only works for native desktop apps. A browser tab or a second-phone setup cannot use it. That is why InterviewFox sends answers to your phone instead, and why Cluely has no Windows app and sells hiding only on its $149.99/month tier.
  2. It hides the window, not you. A camera pointed at your screen, your eyes reading for ten seconds, or a proctoring agent that watches the whole machine are all outside its reach. Any tool that claims otherwise is overselling.

What else "stealth" should include

  • No bot in the call. If the tool joins as a participant to get audio, it is on the guest list. ClapAssist, Final Round, LockedIn, Cluely and Parakeet all capture audio locally instead; InterviewFox is unclear on this.
  • No focus stealing. The shortcut that asks for an answer must not pull keyboard focus away from the meeting window, or the interviewer sees you alt-tab. ClapAssist's shortcuts never take focus; on Mac it also has no Dock icon and is not in Cmd+Tab.
  • Quiet after you answer. Most assistants keep streaming text after the question is handled. ClapAssist gives one line to say first, then the points from your resume, and stops once you have answered.

Privacy is the other half

Hidden from the interviewer is not the same as private. Per their own policies, Cluely, Final Round, LockedIn, Parakeet, OphyAI, Chiku and JavihAI run analytics inside the app (Posthog, Google Analytics, "usage data"), and most transcribe your audio in the cloud. ClapAssist runs no analytics tracker in the app, never stores call audio or screen content, and can run speech-to-text on the laptop.

The pricing pattern

Tool What you pay Hidden on which plan
Cluely $19.99/mo; hiding only at $149.99/mo Top tier only, Mac only
Interview Coder $299/mo or $799 lifetime All tiers
Parakeet AI $149.90/mo, $78/week, or $38 per credit Unlimited and credit plans
Final Round AI Pro $25+/mo (live help paywalled) Pro
LockedIn AI billed every 3 months, credit minutes Toggle; FAQ says not guaranteed everywhere
InterviewFox $49/mo or credit packs from $58 Cannot hide; second device
OphyAI $29-$59/mo, credits reset monthly Desktop app
ClapAssist Pay once: Practice 120 min from $14.99, Sprint 14 days, Job Hunt 30 days; nothing renews Every plan

Eight of nine bill monthly, weekly, quarterly or by expiring credits. The feature people actually want, hiding, is the one most often gated.

Where ClapAssist draws the line

Built for video interviews on Zoom, Meet, Teams and Webex, Mac and Windows. Modes for HR, coding and DSA (reads the problem on your screen, returns runnable code), system design, technical and SQL. Writes a recap after the call: what you were asked, how you answered, what to fix. It is not a bypass for locked-down coding platforms like HackerRank or CoderPad, and it warns you if proctoring software is running. 7-day money-back if you used under 30 minutes, so you can test the screen-share hiding on your own call before relying on it.
